They came in with the HAPPY
faces, wondering what is going to happen now...
We were still in process of
organizing event and settling them on chairs...
The feeling of satisfaction was
clearly seen on our faces...
The entire day working for something and at the end
of the day if you get the positive result of it, that moment gives the feeling
of completeness within ourselves (we were experiencing the same)...
The event went of smoothly and they went to
their home with HAPPY faces and by giving us the promise of coming back to the
same place again…
“SPREADING HAPPINESS”
--- The name of event that we had
organized on the first day of Diwali, 2013.
It started with an idea… On the
first day of Diwali I was thinking to do something different than usual
celebration. I was in the Hostel and did not go Home for vacations, so wanted
to utilize the time in good manner by spreading smiles on some faces, then
thought of distributing sweets (collecting from nearby society, if they want to
give it voluntarily) to the slum children who hardly get to eat.
I wanted someone to do this with
me, Meeta (my friend) liked the idea and we drew the plan of what we were going
to do.
Meeta: Let’s do it! I am very
excited.
Me: Yar hoga ya nahi hoga pta
nahi… I was confused about the execution of plan.
(We both were so enthusiastic
that day, the idea made us energetic)
Lots of things and our “Quality thoughtsJ” went on & we took
a step forward to take the permission.
Before that one of our faculties ‘Avinash
Sir’ told us to organize an event in college itself by inviting the slum
children and play the fun games and make them happy. We liked this idea and
proceed further with our mission...
The main permission from our
Director was pending and we went to His office. We were telling him the idea
and he listened silently and then He said something which opens the door of our
mind. We were silent and thinking that why can’t we think like that? Our
thinking is limited to only one direction. Many times we carry good ideas in
our mind but fail to explore it in right direction.
I’ll try to explain his words:
“Find out one child or a person
in India who cannot eat sweet on Diwali. It is very difficult to get it because
everybody celebrates Diwali as per his earnings or capability, someone do it
with one Diya, someone with 1000 Diyas, What you are thinking of doing is good
but you will be one of those people who do it every Diwali, instead give them
something which they can carry throughout their life. Gift them something which
will spread light in their entire life. EDUCATION is the best gift; we have so
many resources why don’t you use that for teaching them?”
This really inspired us and then
Meeta and I had decided to start the classes of children.
We started searching the children
and also went to collect the sweets. We got the good contribution from SCMLD
staff and students who were present on campus in Diwali. Societies which we had
visited, gave us the great experience from variety of responses, hope and
ignorance. We collected some sweets and also purchased some from our fund
collected.
Searching for children was a
different experience; some parents were not ready to send their children
because of fear and some were demanding the money in return (we heard the
sentences like: “ek bachhe ka kitna rupaya doge?”) and we were shocked by
hearing that. We visited the entire area surrounding our college and finally we
got the children with whom we had celebrated Diwali, with distributing sweets, showing
the videos, playing quiz on general awareness and many things. That was the
best day in our (Meeta’s & my) life.
On that evening, we took the
promise from children to come for the classes and they also kept the promise. Now,
we are running the small school named “Jagriti”.
We are sure that it will continue with all the upcoming batches in SCMLD.
This is the small story of our
community work and it is giving us the inner peace and happiness...
